Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Ibrahima Konate reports

A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports from The Athletic claiming that the Reds are edging closer to finalising a move for Ibrahima Konate.

It is no secret that Jurgen Klopp’s season has been plagued by defensive issues. Even with the January arrivals of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies, Liverpool have been unable to settle on a centre-back pairing.

It is perhaps little surprise therefore, to see the champions already working towards bringing new faces in. And according to The Athletic, the player seemingly at the top of the wishlist is Konate.

The report has claimed that the pursuit is at an advanced stage. And while other teams remain interested, it is Liverpool who find themselves in pole position.

The Athletic adds that RB Leipzig want his £34 million (€40 million) release clause triggered and are unlikely to accept a lower fee.

The report has, unsurprisingly, prompted a strong reaction on social media. There are concerns about signing a defender who has struggled with injuries in the past given the problems they have endured on Merseyside this term.

However, plenty believe that he could be an outstanding signing. The 21-year-old is excellent at driving out from the back. He also boasts a frightening amount of pace.

And the fans are hopeful, if he can enjoy some luck with injuries, that it could prove to be a masterstroke to sign him.
