A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Harvey Elliott’s performance during their 5-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Aston Villa on Tuesday.
It always looked destined to be a tough night for the Reds, particularly after Villa named a strong starting lineup. Dean Smith’s team boasted an average age of over 28, while Liverpool’s starting lineup did not have 28 first-team appearances between them.

And the size of the task that lay ahead became fully apparent within 17 minutes. Conor Hourihane broke the deadlock and the lead was doubled when Ahmed Elmohamady’s cross was deflected by Morgan Boyes.
The visitors may have held out some hope that they could go into the break with an outside chance of a comeback with the scoreline staying the same until the 37th minute. But Villa would score twice more before the interval to dash those hopes.

A goalless second-half would have given the Liverpool youngsters a confidence boost. However, Wesley would add a fifth in stoppage-time to give his own belief a lift. But Liverpool certainly did not disgrace themselves, having more attempts than Villa.
One player who most definitely impressed was Elliott. The 16-year-old has already shown glimpses of his quality in previous rounds. But he took a number of plaudits on social media after the defeat.
He looked a real threat throughout the game, and came close to getting on the scoresheet. What was particularly impressive was his willingness and desire to get on the ball and create some real excitement.
And plenty of Reds fans took to social media after the game to express their delight with what they saw from Elliott at Villa Park.
