A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Fabinho’s performance as the Reds opened their Champions League group-stage campaign with a win over Ajax.
Understandably, much of the talk heading into the game centred around how Jurgen Klopp’s men would cope without Virgil van Dijk following Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

With Liverpool also confirming on their official website that Joel Matip was also out of Wednesday’s game, it was little surprise to see Fabinho line up alongside Joe Gomez in the Netherlands.
The Brazilian has previously impressed in the role. And while he was always unlikely to produce the kind of display that prompted Liverpool to breathe a full sigh of relief – given how long his teammate will be sidelined for – he clearly did enough to attract a number of plaudits.

Ajax looked dangerous going forward. And there were certainly a couple of nervy moments for the visitors.
But Fabinho looked a real class act throughout the contest. He produced a stunning goalline clearance during the first-half. And there was also a brilliant moment when the 26-year-old produced two perfectly-timed challenges in quick succession as Ajax broke into the box.
As shown by Whoscored.com, he made four tackles in total. He also managed nine clearances and four interceptions.
And plenty of fans insisted on social media that they were hugely impressed with Fabinho. Some even suggested that his long-term future could actually be at centre-back – alongside van Dijk at some stage down the line.
