Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Fabinho’s Champions League display
A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Fabinho’s performance as the Reds booked their ticket to the knockout stages of the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Brazilian kept his place at the heart of the defence for the clash with Ajax. It was Nat Phillips who played alongside him at Brighton. But it was the more familiar face of Joel Matip who started against Ajax at Anfield.

It was a fantastic game of football on Merseyside. The decisive goal came from Curtis Jones during the second-half. But the visitors certainly asked questions of the Liverpool defence.
However, Fabinho stood up to virtually every question Ajax asked of him. As shown by Whoscored.com, he made a couple of successful challenges.

But the statistic that arguably best highlighted just how dominant he was came from the number of clearances he made. Remarkably, he made seven – several more than almost any other player on the pitch.
Fabinho has been something of a revelation during his latest stint at centre-back. It is sometimes easy to forget when he is playing that he is not naturally a defender.
And his performance against the Eredivisie side prompted many supporters to take to social media to laud him.
Several insisted that he is a lot better at the heart of the defence than a lot of very, very good centre-backs.
Here is how some of the fans reacted to his display…

Fabinho defending is sooo good, he’s better than most CBs. He doesn’t get injured often so he gives us options. #LFC #YNWA #LIVAJA

If Fabinho was a cb and not a cdm he would genuinely be considered one of the best.
