Liverpool fans react to Nabil Fekir’s France World Cup cameo

The Lyon striker has been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.

It would be fair to say that the biggest transfer saga of the summer so far has been Liverpool’s pursuit of French forward Nabil Fekir. The Lyon attacker looked all set for a move to Anfield before the World Cup. As reported by the BBC, a £52.75 million deal for the attacker was lined up and it appeared a move was as good as done.

Then, it collapsed.

Just days after it appeared Fekir was all set to join Liverpool his club Lyon announced negotiations were over. Rumours have since abounded over what the reason behind the decision is. Some suggest an issue with Fekir’s knee others with the transfer negotiations with notoriously difficult Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas. Both, just rumours, but whatever the reason Fekir to Liverpool fell through.

There has been some hope a deal can still be resurrected. After Liverpool fans tuned in to watch France v Denmark yesterday those hopes have only been heightened.

It was a drab affair. It became clear Denmark only needed a draw to qualify and France were happy to avoid defeat and finish top of their group. The result was a poor performance from Les Bleus, with little inspiration going forward.

Until Fekir entered the fray. He and Kylian Mbappe briefly turned the game around and had fans finally twitching in their seats.

Fekir was arguably France’s best player and played for a little over 20 minutes.

The cameo was enough for some Liverpool fans to insist their club must reinvigorate the transfer of Fekir this summer…
