Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana is targeting a breakthrough at Anfield next term.

The former Southampton ace has emphatically ruled out a summer exit from the club, and wants to enter into the final 12 months of his contract.

He said, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo: “I know my ability and I know what I can give. And the gaffer and his staff and the recruitment guys have all made it clear they know I have a big part to play with what’s to come next, so I’m buzzing with that.

“No question my future is here and I can’t wait for what’s next.”

Lallana was arguably one of Jurgen Klopp’s most trusted players when the German first arrived at the club, but the past couple of years have been a struggle for the player.

He’s had his fair share of injuries, and new signings such as Gini Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri haven’t helped his cause.

Lallana, who takes home around £110,000-a-week according to Spotrac, was widely tipped to move on this summer.

But it now appears he won’t be going anywhere.

Liverpool fans react

Many Liverpool fans were flummoxed with Lallana’s comments, and some were even slightly irked that he intends to stay given his high wages and poor fitness record:
