Liverpool fans react as Southampton manager confirms permanent talks for Takumi Minamino
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed talks are ongoing with Liverpool over a permanent move for Takumi Minamino. The Japanese playmaker spent the second half of last season on loan with the Saints. Now, Liverpool fans have responded to his comments.
Minamino, 26, only joined Liverpool in January 2020 from RedBull Salzburg. However, he only managed 31 outings – scoring just four goals. While he was signed for a bargain fee of £7.25million, many expected him to do a lot better. But game time has been at a premium.
In January 2021, he joined the Saints and while injury hampered his ability to play regularly – he still scored twice in 10 games. That included a goal against Chelsea in a 1-1 draw. Now, he could join Southampton permanently and Hasenhuttl has confirmed talks have taken place with Liverpool.
“The most important thing for him is that he gets a chance to play,” Hasenhuttl told Hampshire Live earlier this week. “We have had talks with them and they are not so sure what will happen with him because Liverpool may make some things happen in the transfer market.”
What are Liverpool fans saying about the comments made by Hasenhuttl, and Minamino leaving permanently?
The Reds have numerous options in attack. Minamino is behind the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota when it comes to a place in the front three. He is also excellent as an attacking midfielder, but preference is likely to be given to Curtis Jones and Naby Keita.
Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter to the comments made by Hasenhuttl – and many believe a move to Southampton suits Minamino. Some have even suggested a swap deal that includes England midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
