Liverpool fans react as Sergio Romero is tipped to start at Anfield
Liverpool fans have been discussing the prospect of Sergio Romero starting in goal for Manchester United in Sunday’s Premier League clash.
The Red Devils appear to have been struck by an injury blow, with number one David de Gea looking to have hurt his hamstring whilst on international duty with Spain (BBC Sport).
The 28-year-old was forced off during the Euro 2020 qualifier with Sweden to be replaced by Kepa Arrizabalaga.
United supporters will be fearing the worst over de Gea, who appeared to sustain the injury under completely innocuous circumstances clearing a backpass.
The star will now be assessed by United physios.
de Gea’s potential absence at Anfield would be a huge blow for the visitors, with the former Atletico Madrid man having been United’s standout performer for the best part of eight years.
His form has wavered in recent times, but he is still a crucial player for the Red Devils and they will hope the problem is nothing too serious.
Liverpool fans react
Several Liverpool fans have given their takes about Romero potentially deputising for the doubtful de Gea on social media.
Quite a few appear to be wary of the quality of the Argentine, who has often proved himself to be a top quality backup at Old Trafford:
De Gea injury wont matter. Romero is a good backup

Just hope Romero doesn’t turn into 2019 Adrian ??

De Gea is injured. You know what that means? Romero masterclass.

From an #LFC point of view I don’t think this is as good news as most making out.
De Gea’s form has been suspect and Romero is one of the best reserve keepers about.

De gea off injured, romero will turn up like prime Dida against us

I’m actually even more scared for #Liverpool to face Romero in goal instead of De Gea. He has to prove himself and I think he will.
It also shows the depth Man United have in goal. To pull I guy like this… (gif down below) off the bench.#ManchesterUnited #LFC pic.twitter.com/MfaA627PSl

If ddg is injured and Romero has to start, bet your house he has the game of his career against us then throws one in the following game! ?

De Gea off injured. Going to be typical when Romero has the game of his life and turns into prime Lev Yashin against us.

He is a good backup tbf

Romero is decent, whenever he’s been called upon he has played well.

De Gea injured so expect Romero to put in a prime Petr Cech performance on sunday.

De Gea injured. Just wait when Romero will turn into Prime Buffon against us this week. Advantage United.
