Liverpool fans react as Sadio Mane is crowned African Player of the Year

The Reds winger scooped the prize for the first time.

Liverpool winger Sadio Mane has been named as CAF African Player of the Year for 2019, scooping the award for the very first time.

The former Southampton man was voted his continent’s best player ahead of Anfield team-mate Mo Salah and Manchester City wideman Riyad Mahrez.

It has been an exceptional year for Mane, scooping three trophies with Liverpool and playing a major part in their position atop the Premier League.

He won the Champions League and Premier League Golden Boot – which is a staggering achievement for a winger – and in the summer, he helped his native Senegal to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Liverpool fans were thrilled for the winger, who fully deserves his award and will likely be in contention for the end of season accolades in the Premier League.

He looks set to become a Premier League winner as well and the Reds fans will want to see more of the same from the winger in 2020.

Mane is going from strength to strength and we’ve put together the best of the reaction on Twitter from Liverpool fans congratulating their man on the prize.
