A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from Sky Italia suggesting that Roma have been in contact with the Reds regarding a potential bid for Xherdan Shaqiri.
It has perhaps not been an easy campaign for Shaqiri personally. He has struggled with injury at times and found it difficult to break into Jurgen Klopp’s plans.
He has made just two starts in the Premier League, with a further four appearances coming from the bench. And it appears that that may have prompted Roma to reach out to the Champions League winners.
According to a report from Sky Italia, the Giallorossi made contact with Liverpool regarding a potential loan move for Shaqiri.
The Liverpool Echo has since suggested that the Reds have absolutely no interest in letting Shaqiri leave Anfield this month.
And it appears that the large majority of fans on social media are very pleased to hear that the bid has reportedly been snubbed.
Many have taken to Twitter to insist that Shaqiri still has a big role to play this season. Despite his lack of game-time, he has still managed to provide one goal and three assists in the top flight.
And the fans are confident that he will get the chance to add to those tallies before the campaign concludes. They also cannot understand why the Switzerland international would have any interest in leaving when he looks to be on course to win a title medal with Klopp’s men.
Here is how some of the Liverpool fans reacted to the reports of Roma’s bid as well as the suggestion that Shaqiri is going nowhere…
Keep him. Nobody within touching distance of our 1st team should be allowed to leave.. why weaken our squad at this point of the season…. Especially this season …#YNWA

The players here have a title to win. Any of them would be stupid to leave at this point.

Shaq is still part of Klopp’s plan. He should not go, please.

Good – he needs to celebrate the title win with the team

Additionally, it looks like Roma reached out to Liverpool for a possible loan deal for Shaqiri. Liverpool reportedly declined the offer, which is good because we absolutely need him for cover/substitutions

If we want to win the league and go as far as we can in both the CL and FA Cup then everyone will have a role to play
Much like how Lallana was written off by many before the season started

No matter how small part he plays he’s still about to help LFC win our 1st title in 30 years! Why the hell would he give up the biggest celebration this country has seen to go to Roma

No one out until the end of the season!
