Liverpool fans react as reports claim Steven Gerrard will get Aston Villa contract until 2024

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is reportedly set to sign an Aston Villa contract until June 2024 – and Liverpool fans have reacted to the news on Twitter.

Gerrard, 41, has been chosen by Villa as the man to replace Dean Smith. Sky Sports report he had dinner with Christian Purslow in London last night.

It is believed that Gerrard will sign a deal at Aston Villa that keeps him at the Premier League club until 2024. Compensation is up to £4million.

It sees Gerrard leave Rangers in the middle of the season to join a Villa side that are teetering above the relegation drop zone.

That is, despite Rangers still in Europe – and sitting top of the Scottish Premiership table. An announcement is expected in the next two days.

What are Liverpool fans saying about Gerrard and Villa contract?

Of course, Gerrard has been linked with Liverpool – and has even admitted himself that it is a dream of his to eventually manage his boyhood club.

But the debate is – could Gerrard go straight from Rangers to Liverpool, or use a Premier League club to prove he can hack England’s top flight, first?

Well, it is clear he has chosen to join Villa. Reports state he will get a two-and-a-half-year deal, which ends in June 2024 – as does Jurgen Klopp’s.

Many Liverpool fans have responded on Twitter, suggesting that the length of the deal is “not a coincidence” and could be a sign he replaces Klopp.
