Liverpool fans react as reports claim club could enter Fabinho talks

Liverpool are reportedly set to open talks to extend Fabinho’s contract despite the Brazilian midfielder still boasting three years until his current deal expires – and Reds supporters have reacted on Twitter to the news.

Fabinho, 27, has emerged as one of the club’s most important players – not least because of his excellent performances at the base of the Liverpool midfield that underpinned the club’s Champions League and Premier League successes.

But with Virgil van Dijk being ruled out for the majority of this season, the importance of Fabinho has increased further. He has emerged as a makeshift option at centre-back, with Joel Matip also sidelined and Dejan Lovren sold.

He still has three years on his current contract which would keep him at Anfield until he is 30 years of age. But ESPN claim that he could now be offered a pay rise on his current £100,000-a-week deal as a reward for his performances.

Certainly this season, he has been one of the club’s best performers and was in stunning form at centre-back against Ajax – with his off-the-line clearance as good as a goal. Talks are expected to open soon.

It appears that Liverpool supporters are all for a new deal for their nine-time Brazil international. Many believe he deserves a new deal, while others feel it is a “no brainer” to tie him down for the long-term future.
