French outlet Le 10 Sport have claimed that Lille star Boubakary Soumare rejected a move to Newcastle United in the January window as he is holding out for a move to Liverpool or Manchester United – and Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter.
The Sun reported that Newcastle had made an offer worth £35million for Soumare, who turns 21 at the end of the month. He has already clocked up 68 appearances for Lille, even playing in the Champions League against Chelsea, Valencia and Ajax.
Steve Bruce confirmed in a press conference on deadline day that Newcastle missed out on their number one target despite having a bid accepted for the player, as he did not want to move to St. James’ Park. Bruce claimed it was a near club-record fee.
Reports have now suggested that the player was Soumare with a £35million fee agreed. Now, Le 10 Sport claim Soumare turned down a move to Newcastle – even despite a facetime from Allan Saint-Maximin – as he is holding out for a bigger move.
Indeed, Soumare is believed to have his heart set on a move to either Liverpool or Manchester United. He is likely to leave Lille in the summer, especially if Lille fail to qualify for the Champions League. They currently sit in fourth place.
Liverpool fans have reacted to the reported news that Soumare is holding out for a move to Anfield, and many supporters stated that they would rather the likes of Jack Grealish or Todd Cantwell to come in – with Adam Lallana leaving.
He's been incredible recently – but do we need another central midfielder? Maybe if Lallana departs, in fairness 🇫🇷 https://t.co/7OHPZA0tvx

He could be a good understudy for fabinho

Doesnt look that impressive just from the clips. Would prefer Cantwell to replace Lallana. Very similar, very hungry and would easily adapt to Klopp's tactics

We need a creative playmaker. The likes of Silva and De Bruyne.
