Liverpool fans react as report details Jurgen Klopp’s stance on Anfield midfielder

A report from The Athletic and James Pearce claims that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp still has faith in midfielder Naby Keita. With Gini Wijnaldum leaving the club, Klopp is hopeful that Keita can fill the Dutchman’s void. Liverpool fans are frustrated at Klopp for his view on Keita, though.

Keita, 26, has managed just 76 appearances for Liverpool since joining the club in the summer of 2018 – averaging little over 25 a season. A pretty small total given Liverpool have been in the Champions League. In comparison, three Liverpool players clocked up 50 or more last term.

Andy Robertson, Mo Salah and Wijnaldum all reached a half century of appearances. It is understandable to see Liverpool fans frustrated with a player the club spent £48million (Telegraph) to sign. The report says that Liverpool boss Klopp is happy to give Keita another chance this season.

Pearce reports on The Athletic: “Klopp genuinely still believes in him. Keita himself hasn’t shown any interest in wanting to move. He’s happy at Liverpool. He wants to prove himself. If he shines this season he will still be worth a lot more. He might even earn himself a new contract.
