Liverpool fans react as Reds linked with Serie A colossus

Liverpool have been linked with a shock move for Kalidou Koulibaly.

Il Mattino have reported that the Reds have made contact with the Senegal international’s agent, and that the club are debating making an genuine offer.

The 27-year-old is widely viewed as one of Europe’s top defenders.

He has been with Napoli since 2014 following a transfer from Genk, and he has gone from strength to strength at Stadio San Paolo.

Jurgen Klopp has apparently had Koulibaly on his radar ‘for some time’, and may now attempt to actually sign the 6ft 5in centre-back.

Napoli supposedly need to generate transfer funds through player sales, and would demand around £107 million for the star, who is also reportedly being chased by Manchester United.

One has to imagine such a move would be unlikely, with Liverpool’s defence a particular strong point of their 2019/20 season. Joel Matip and Joe Gomez were both superb last term and PFA Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk, imperious.

The Reds have been tipped not to spend big this summer having shelled out large fees for the likes of van Dijk, Alisson, Fabinho and Naby Keita in recent windows.
