Liverpool fans react as Real Madrid reportedly eye Brendan Rodgers signing

BBC Sport claim Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has emerged as a target for Real Madrid. The England international has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield – and Reds fans have responded to Madrid’s interest on Twitter.

Gomez, 24, has only managed nine appearances this season. The ex-Charlton man, signed during the era of Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2015, could be allowed to leave the club – though January is out of the question.

That is, according to BBC Sport. It is believed that Madrid are simply ‘monitoring’ the 11-time England star and could make a move for Gomez next summer. The signing of Ibrahima Konate could give Madrid a chance to get Gomez.

Along with Konate, Liverpool do have options at the back. Gomez finds himself well out of favour, with Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and even Nat Phillips as options. Ben Davies and Rhys Williams are currently out on loan.

Gomez to Madrid: What do Liverpool fans think of losing defender?

A couple of seasons ago, Gomez was first choice and the idea of losing him would not have been entertained. But after missing the majority of the 2020-21 season due to injury, Gomez is struggling to make an impact.

Unfortunately, he has been labelled injury prone and getting the odd outing for Liverpool is not going to help him rid himself of that tag. Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter to the reports that Madrid are keen on signing him.
