Liverpool fans react as PSG reportedly set to wave goodbye to Thiago Silva

French newspaper L’Equipe have claimed that Paris Saint-Germain have opted not to renew Thiago Silva’s contract this summer, and the Brazilian veteran will therefore become a free agent – prompting reaction from Liverpool fans.

Silva, 35, is out of contract this summer and there has been plenty of discussion as to whether the 88-time Brazil international would remain with the French champions, given that he remains the club’s captain.

However, the latest reports state that Silva – who has clocked up more than 500 club appearances for PSG, AC Milan and Fluminense – is now due to leave. Where his next club will be, remains to be seen.

Certainly, the experienced defender still boasts plenty of quality despite entering the twilight stages of his career. He may be a decent signing on a 12-month contract, or even over the next couple of seasons.

Liverpool boast four centre-backs in Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren – though the latter is set to enter the final year of his contract, and has been criticised following his display in the 3-0 loss to Watford.

Liverpool supporters reacted to the reports surrounding Silva, and many want Jurgen Klopp to consider a move for the £240,000-a-week (Foot Mercato) star.
