Liverpool fans react as PSG reportedly eye Joel Matip

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool defender Joel Matip in the coming months, despite the centre-back agreeing a new deal in October – and some Liverpool fans want a swap for Kylian Mbappe.

Matip, 28, has endured numerous injury issues throughout his four-year stay at Anfield – limiting him to just 111 appearances in all competitions. During 2019-20, Matip played just 13 times in all competitions.

Dejan Lovren has completed a move to Zenit St. Petersburg this summer and it is believed that the Reds will need to bring in a new central defender – or place their faith in youngster Sepp van der Berg.

However, Matip could now join Lovren in departing. That is because Thomas Tuchel wants him at PSG to replace Brazilian veteran Thiago Silva according to Kick442. TeamTalk, meanwhile, claim he is rated at £50million.

Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Brighton’s Ben White after his sparkling season at Leeds, as well Brazilian mountain Diego Carlos from Sevilla. The sale of Matip may see Liverpool go after one of those defenders.

Liverpool supporters have responded on Twitter to the reported news that their club could sell Matip to PSG in the coming months. Some expect him to leave if a good offer is tabled, while others suggested a swap for Kylian Mbappe.

The PSG sensation has been strongly linked with Liverpool over the past 12 months and Reds fans are desperate to see the 2018 World Cup winner at Anfield. Reds fans suggested a player-plus-cash deal.
