Liverpool fans react as Newcastle eye Chelsea attacker Timo Werner
Newcastle are reportedly keen on signing Chelsea striker Timo Werner in what would be a shock move – and Liverpool fans have responded.
Werner, 25, was strongly linked with a move to Anfield in 2020 before he joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig. He has since played 60 times for Chelsea.
But it has been a disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge. In those games, he has scored just 14 goals – hardly warranting his £47.5million transfer fee.
However, his work rate and 16 assists have certainly earned the appreciation of Chelsea fans. You can add Newcastle’s new owners, too.
They are reportedly keen on signing Werner, with the Germany international represented by the same agent as Toon ace Fabian Schar.
BILD reporter Christian Falk has claimed on Twitter that Schar’s agent is in constant contact with Newcastle – and that the Toon want to sign Werner.
What are Liverpool saying, as Newcastle eye Chelsea ace Werner?
Obviously, Jurgen Klopp was quite keen to bring him to Liverpool from Leipzig. He is the perfect type of player that Klopp likes in the final third.
Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are considered wingers, but they score their goals by going beyond either Diogo Jota or Roberto Firmino – becoming strikers.
Werner, at Leipzig, played from the left but scored goal after goal. On paper then, he was perfect for the Reds. He perhaps does not suit Chelsea.
Upon hearing the news that Newcastle want Werner, Liverpool fans have responded. Some are jealous, while others are shocked he could go north.
