Liverpool fans react as Minamino only brought on in injury time against Arsenal

Liverpool came from behind to earn a 3-1 victory over Arsenal at Anfield on Monday evening as goals from Andy Robertson, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota netted – but Reds fans have questioned the use of Takumi Minamino.

The Reds came into the match as they looked to hold on to their 100% start following three wins over Leeds United, Chelsea and Lincoln City. They would need to win to match Everton and Leicester City’s perfect start.

That is just what they did, though they went behind after a dismal mistake from Robertson. The Scotland captain’s error allowed Alexandre Lacazette to bundle the ball home – but their lead was immediately cancelled out.

Mane equalised after Bernd Leno parried a Mo Salah shot, before Robertson rectified his mistake to put the Reds ahead from close range. New signing Jota made it three with the pick of the goals with a chest and volley.

Minamino, 25, has made an excellent start the season and while it was no surprise he was on the bench, his three goals – including a Community Shield strike – perhaps warranted longer than the injury time run out he received.

Liverpool supporters were surprised and some even frustrated for Minamino after the Japan international was brought on in the last two minutes of the match, with the game eventually ending after three minutes of injury time.
