Liverpool fans react as Mario Gotze confirms he will leave Dortmund for nothing

Mario Gotze has confirmed that he will be leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season on a free transfer, when his contract expires – and Liverpool supporters think Jurgen Klopp should form a reunion.

Gotze, 27, has made the decision after being used just 19 times this season by Lucien Favre. The 61-time Germany international, who scored the winner in the 2014 World Cup final, is out of contract in June – despite costing Dortmund £22million (Guardian) in June.

A metabolic disorder, which is supposedly the reason for pelvis and upper-leg muscle injuries has seen Gotze failed to live up to his early billing. However, he still remains an asset and a move to the Premier League could materialise this summer.

He told SportBild: “After intensive considerations, I decided to make a change in the sporting planning of my career. I deliberately took the necessary time for this step because it is an important step for me to set the course for the future.”

Liverpool are likely to be after attacking midfielders this summer. Adam Lallana is in a similar boat to Gotze, with the England international being linked with a move to Leicester City this summer for nothing.

Gini Wijnaldum has been linked with a move to Inter Milan (TMW) with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2021, while The Mirror say Naby Keita is one of six players that could leave Liverpool – along with Divock Origi and Loris Karius.

Upon hearing the news, Liverpool fans reacted to Gotze being available on a free transfer and given Gotze’s stunning form under Klopp, supporters are keen to see their club land the German ace to Anfield this summer.
