Liverpool fans react as Manchester United star Paul Pogba comments on league position

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has put aside the brutal rivalry between his side and Liverpool, to compliment Jurgen Klopp’s side and state that they deserve to be at the top of the table – and Reds fans have reacted on Twitter.

Liverpool stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League table to an enormous 22 points after a 3-2 win over West Ham United on Monday night. With just 11 league games to play, Liverpool have both hands on the trophy.

Meanwhile, Pogba’s United sit way down in fifth place and although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are betting better as the season goes on – they are far from the United that saw them become bitter rivals with Liverpool under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pogba, 26, has managed just eight appearances this season for his side, with a troublesome ankle injury keeping him on the sidelines. Asked about rivals Liverpoool’s Premier League form, he complimented the Merseyside outfit.

“As a Manchester United player and with the rivalry between us, we don’t want them to win the title,” Pogba told ESPN. “But as a football lover and a respectful player to an opposition team, I have to say that they deserve to be where they are today.

“They are so way ahead of everyone else, they have not lost a single game yet this season in the league. They already have one hand on the Premier League trophy.”

Frustration over Pogba’s lengthy spell on the sidelines is causing anger among the supporters, with many keen to see the former Juventus star leave – especially considering he is earning an enormous £290,000 a week (Spotrac) at Old Trafford.

Many Liverpool fans reacted to Pogba’s honesty and his decision to forget the rivalry between Liverpool and United before commenting, and some urged Pogba to go a step further and move to Anfield.
