Manchester United defender Phil Jones claimed last week that he could have moved to Liverpool among other sides before choosing Old Trafford in 2011 – and Liverpool supporters are relieved on Twitter.
Jones, 28, has clocked up 224 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United in nine years for the Old Trafford clubs – following his £16million move from Blackburn Rovers as a teenager. Sir Alex Ferguson was a huge fan.
The Premier League winner has gone on to win 27 England caps, but has since become out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – managing just two league appearances this season and only eight outings in total.
Last week, Jones spoke of his move to Old Trafford in an interview with his club’s official website. The defender claimed he could have joined Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea or Manchester City – but chose United.

“I had offers from other clubs. I could have gone to a host of clubs: [Manchester] City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton,” Jones told MUTV, recalling his move to Old Trafford and Sir Alex nine years ago.
Jones has a contract at Manchester United until the summer of 2023 and is said to be a target for West Ham United and Newcastle United this summer, as per the Mirror. He is rated at £12million.
Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to the news that Jones had claimed he could have moved to Anfield before he joined United. Many supporters are relieved that Jones chose United, rather than moving to Liverpool.
