Manchester City defender John Stones has been ruled out for five weeks after picking up a muscular injury in training ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk – and Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter.
Pep Guardiola is already struggling for numbers at the heart of his defence, after losing Vincent Kompany who opted to return to his home country with Anderlecht as player manager. Kompany has since stepped down as manager, and is now just a player.
It left Guardiola with just Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nicolas Otamendi as options at centre-back. Laporte has since been ruled out until the new year with a knee injury, and Stones has now joined the injury list.
Sky Sports reported on their official Twitter account that Stones will now be missing until almost November due to a muscular problem, which he has picked up in training. It leaves Guardiola with just Otamendi.

The question mark now surrounds who will replace Laporte and Stones, alongside Otamendi. Fernandinho could drop into centre-back, something which Guardiola did with Javier Mascherano at Barcelona.
Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that their direct rival for the Premier League title have suffered another blow in the form of Stones.
