Liverpool fans react as Jurgen Klopp says Joel Matip has picked up a knock

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that his central defender Joel Matip picked up a knock against Sheffield United on Saturday.

As per the club’s official website, Klopp stated that Matip is not guaranteed to be fit for the visit of Red Bull Salzburg tomorrow night.

He said: “In a good mood, good spirits, but we have to wait a little bit to give a final answer about fitness. Joel Matip obviously got a slight knock at Sheffield, we have to see how exactly it will be. Apart from that, everybody should be fine.”

Matip has been increasingly important for Liverpool this season, establishing himself ahead of Joe Gomez, who many might have expected to be Virgil van Dijk’s regular partner.

And that means that many Liverpool fans on Twitter are worried about Matip’s fitness and keeping their fingers crossed that he isn’t out for any considerable length of time.

Gomez is likely capable of deputising against Salzburg at Anfield, but with Leicester, Manchester United and Tottenham coming up in the Premier League, Klopp will need Matip.
