Liverpool fans react as Jurgen Klopp says Adrian is an injury doubt for Southampton

Liverpool have already seen one goalkeeper struck down by injury so far this season when Alisson limped out of last week’s win over Norwich.

Now, his deputy Adrian – fresh from his Super Cup penalty shoot-out heroics against Chelsea in midweek – is a doubt for tomorrow’s game against Southampton, according to Jurgen Klopp.

As per the club’s official website, Klopp said: “It would help him a lot if it would be 100 per cent clear he can play tomorrow. When we were all together a supporter jumped over something, slipped and kicked [Adrian’s] ankle. Crazy.

“Yesterday it was swollen. Today I spoke to him and he said it is much better than yesterday, but we have to see. We wait for the swelling to go down. It went down already. You fly four hours back and that doesn’t help swelling.  The decision will be made tomorrow; there is no chance to make it early.”

Adrian had no sooner established himself as Liverpool’s latest cult hero than he has experienced the lows, with Andy Lonergan perhaps in line for a shock start.

The experienced stopper may well be thrust centre stage in perhaps even more unexpected circumstances than Adrian was, and some Reds fans bemoaned their side’s luck on Twitter.
