John Arne Riise has confirmed on Twitter that he has passed UEFA’s coaching B license and is planning on adding the coveted A license to his CV – prompting Liverpool fans to urge the Norwegian to return as a coach at Anfield.

Riise, 39, is making the first steps into the world of management after retiring back in 2017. He has spent three months at Maltese club Birkirkara as technical director, but the Norwegian left the club due to personal reasons.

Famed for his powerful left foot, the ex-Liverpool man spent seven years on Merseyside. He pulled on the Liverpool shirt 348 times for The Reds, winning the Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and two UEFA Super Cups.

The 110-time Norway international posted on Twitter to confirm that he has now achieved the UEFA B license, and is now set to embark on achieving the A license in coaching – which the majority of top coaches have in the modern game.

Following his time at Liverpool, Riise finally left the club in 2008 to join Italian giants AS Roma. A return to England followed, spending three years at London side Fulham before becoming somewhat nomadic towards the end of his career.

Spells in Cyprus with APOEL Nicosia, The Indian Super League with Delhi Dynamos and Chennaiyin, and Norway with boyhood club Aalesund and Rollon saw him call time at 37. Liverpool fans reacted to his Tweet, urging him to return as a coach.
