Liverpool’s under-23 outfit secured a 2-1 win away at Wolverhampton Wanderers last night, scoring the winner deep into stoppage time at the end of the second half.
Joe Hardy opened the scoring on 57 minutes with a well-taken goal, before Chem Campbell restored parity from the penalty spot on 72 minutes.
Neil Critchley’s charges weren’t to be denied, however. With the game heading for a draw, Jake Cain struck to break Wolves hearts.
Hardy’s performance was the one which caught the eye and he looks a real find from a Liverpool perspective.
The 21-year-old arrived in January from Brentford and last night was his third goal for the under-23s in four games.
Hardy was with Manchester City, joining the club as a youth player in 2015. He made 19 appearances for the under-18s and scored 11 goals during the 2016/17 campaign.
He was released, however, and after finding his feet once again with the Bees he now finds himself with a second crack at Premier League stardom with Liverpool.
Following his goal last night, Reds supporters have taken to Twitter to rave about the youngster’s goalscoring performance.
Here is a selection of tweets from Liverpool supporters regarding Joe Hardy’s display in last night’s victory over Wolves:
