Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has claimed that Liverpool were interested in him as a schoolboy.
Speaking on a podcast on manutd.com, Lingard revealed he rejected Liverpool to sign for Man United. He’s a boyhood Man United fan and that was the only option he wanted to pursue.
The England midfielder says that there was interest from Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City and Crewe Alexandra. However, he decided to sign for Man United at the age of nine after first trialling at the age of seven.
Liverpool fans happy without Lingard
Lingard has had an up-and-down career at Man United. While he has shown moments of brilliance, he has been largely criticised for his consistency and his social media use.
This season, he has played 16 games and has failed to find the net. His only assist this season came in the EFL Cup. As an attacking midfielder, this is a record that could be bettered.
Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Lingard’s comments. After hearing that he rejected the Reds, most responded with jokes or relief. Here are some of the best tweets.
