Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum’s injury does not appear to be too serious.

Wijnaldum has been included in Liverpool’s 20-man squad to travel to Doha for the Club World Cup. The Dutch midfielder suffered an injury scare against Watford, limping off in the second half.

However, he is in the 20-man squad which departed today. Dejan Lovren has not made the cut due to injuries. But Liverpool have been boosted by Wijnaldum’s inclusion.

Liverpool have had a few injury problems lately. Jurgen Klopp has only been able to name two centre-backs in his squad (Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez). Lovren joins Joel Matip on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, injuries to other senior players (such as Fabinho) have presented opportunities for youngsters. Neco Williams and Curtis Jones will travel with the first-team squad rather than stay and play in the EFL Cup against Aston Villa.

But Klopp’s options have been boosted with Wijnaldum being passed fit for the Club World Cup. The 29-year-old might not make it for the semi-final on Wednesday but Klopp has deemed him fit enough to be around the squad. Here is some reaction.
