Gini Wijnaldum has delivered a blunt response when asked about his Liverpool contract and whether he will be penning a new deal in the coming months – and Reds fans have responded to the midfielder’s comments.
Wijnaldum, who turned 30 on Wednesday, is set to see his current contract expire at the end of the current season. He remains a crucial part of Liverpool’s side, starting and finishing seven of Liverpool’s eight Premier League games.
The midfielder – who joined Liverpool back in the summer of 2016 from Newcastle – has been linked with an exit due to his current contract situation. Ronald Koeman’s arrival at Barcelona saw Wijnaldum linked to the Nou Camp.
Speaking while on international duty with the Netherlands, Wijnaldum gave a prickly response when asked if there will be a new deal in the coming months. As of January, he can speak to non-English clubs on a pre-contract deal.

“I can’t say anything about that,” Wijnaldum told Het Parool. “Just ask Liverpool. Don’t they answer? I cannot say anything about it, including whether or not there is talk of a new contract between me and Liverpool. Sorry.”
Liverpool supporters responded on Twitter to the news that Wijnaldum had given a pokey response when asked about his future at Anfield – and many are desperate to see him put pen to paper.
