Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Liverpool could be preparing to offer midfielder Fabinho a new contract soon, after an excellent season on a personal level for the Brazilian – and Reds fans have reacted to the reports on Twitter.
With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and even Jordan Henderson out injured, Liverpool have had to rely on the 12-time Brazil international in defence on numerous occasions this season. He has shown his importance.
That impressive form, whether it be in defence or in midfield – has been crucial to Liverpool this season. While their form has been poor, Fabinho has been excellent and is probably in line for the club’s Player of the Season award.
So much so, that Liverpool could be about to hand Fabinho a new contract. Indeed, Fabrizio Romano has told the Here We Go podcast that Liverpool are happy with the ex-Monaco man – and that a new deal is being prepared.
“Their priority looking at the transfer window will be extending contracts, as we say van Dijk is one of the topics, but Fabinho. Keep an eye on Fabinho because Liverpool are pushing,” Romano told his podcast.
“They want to make a proposal to Fabinho, they are so, so happy with him. Jurgen Klopp is in love with Fabinho, so they are working to extend his contract and Fabinho is happy at Liverpool.”
Fabinho does have a contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2023, but clearly, Liverpool feel his efforts on the pitch are deserving of a new deal and a potential increase. The future of Gini Wijnaldum, though, looks bleak.
Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to the news that Romano had claimed a new deal for Fabinho could materialise in the near future – and many believe that it would be a good decision to tie him down on a new contract.
Good news, get it done.
