Liverpool fans react as Dejan Lovren hints at summer departure

Dejan Lovren has suggested he could be open to leaving Liverpool in the summer after coming close to an Anfield exit in the previous summer window – and Reds fans have reacted in their drones on Twitter.

Lovren, 30, told Sky Sports that he is focused on Liverpool at the moment but left the door ajar when discussing his future. It comes as little surprise, given that the Croatian defender reportedly came close to a move to AC Milan in 2019.

However, the former Southampton star remained on Merseyside – even though he is considered fourth-choice centre-back at the club. Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and of course, Virgil van Dijk are above Lovren in Jurgen Klopp’s mind.

Asked about the future, Lovren gave a short response but hinted that he could leave the club at the end of the season – but hopefully, for Lovren at least, with a Premier League winners’ medal draped around his neck.

“I don’t think I’m just a throwaway. If the club needs me I am here, I am happy. But you never know what can happen in the summer. At the moment I am just focused on the point where I can say I made it [as part of a great team],” Lovren said.

Since joining the club almost six years ago, the former Lyon defender has clocked up a whopping 183 appearances and helped The Reds lift the Champions League trophy last season. His £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) contract expires in June 2021.

Liverpool fans have reacted to Lovren’s comments on Twitter, as it becomes more and more likely that the giant centre-back could leave Anfield in the coming months. Some feel it is time for him to move on, while others want Lovren to stay put.
