Liverpool fans react as Daniel Sturridge is released by Trabzonspor
Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been mutually released from his contract with Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.
The former England man made a decent start to life in Turkey and leaves having scored seven goals and registered four assists in 16 appearances.
He has perhaps unsurprisingly struggled with injury issues, however, and the league leaders have agreed to terminate his deal.
Sturridge left Anfield in the summer ending his six-year association with the club. He enjoyed some successful times at Liverpool and left with 68 goals from 160 appearances.
He was part of the team that nearly lifted the Premier League title under Brendan Rodgers during the 2013/14 campaign.
Following today’s news that Sturridge has left, Liverpool fans have been reacting to the fact that their former player is now a free agent.
As Sturridge has departed his current club outside a transfer window he cannot sign for a club in Europe until the summer.
The MLS is an option, however, with their campaign getting underway during the weekend.
It will be interesting to see where he does end up and he may choose to wait until the summer for another crack at winning a Premier League deal.
Here is a selection of tweets from Liverpool fans following Sturridge’s release from Trabzonspor.
