Liverpool are getting closer to life without Gini Wijnaldum as his contract looks set to expire in June, and a Reds-supporting pundit has suggested a Premier League replacement – which has prompted plenty of reaction from Liverpool fans.
Wijnaldum is being linked with Barcelona and Inter Milan and every day that passes sees the Netherlands international get closer to June 30, when he would become a free agent. It is looking more and more likely that Liverpool need a replacement.
Speaking to the OTB Podcast, ex-Ireland international and Liverpool supporter David Meyler has suggested that the “phenomenal” Youri Tielemans would be the player he would look to sign – if he was in control of the club’s coffers.

“He’s a wonderful talent as a player,” Meyler said. “He’s only 23 years of age, he’s only going to get better and better. Leicester are fantastic, but to go on to that next level, I’d love to see how he’d do there [Liverpool]. He’s a phenomenal player.”
Since joining Leicester, initially on loan from Monaco, the Belgium international has had a hand in 33 goals for the Foxes – clocking up 96 appearances in all competitions. Even this season, despite playing deeper, he has been involved in 12 goals.
However, Leicester spent £35million to sign him permanently from Monaco after an initial loan fee and given he has impressed at Leicester and is still young – his price is likely to go through the roof. Liverpool fans, though, think he would be a top signing.
