Liverpool fans react as club reportedly prepare bumper new contract for van Dijk

Liverpool fans have been reacting to claims the club are ready to hand Virgil van Dijk a new five-year contract.

The Dutchman is currently sidelined for the foreseeable future, of course, having undergone surgery for ACL damage.

van Dijk was challenged strongly by Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside Derby in October, and is unlikely to play again this season.

Although Liverpool have great options to call on in Joel Matip and Fabinho in his absence, he is undoubtedly a major miss for the Reds.

Since his arrival at the club in January 2018, van Dijk has been a total force at Anfield and become arguably the best centre-half in the world.

His ability to be consistently dominant while making it look easy makes him the envy of teams worldwide, and it seems Liverpool are now ready to hand him a new deal that reflects that.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed on CBS Sports’ Que Golazo podcast that van Dijk is set to be offered a new five-year deal.

As brilliant as van Dijk has been, that is a beefy contract for someone who is currently recovering from a serious knee injury, although it is probably no less than he deserves given the way he’s transformed the team.
