Liverpool fans react as club reportedly battling Barcelona for Leicester's Tielemans
Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans as a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum this summer, but face competition from Barcelona – and Reds fans have reacted to the reports.
Tielemans, 24, has been in stunning form for Leicester throughout the campaign, in what is his second full season since joining the club initially on loan in January 2019. He has since gone on to clock up 107 outings, cup and league.
Playing as the more attacking central-midfielder alongside the likes of Nampalys Mendy or Wilfried Ndidi, Belgium international Tielemans has clocked up an impressive 50 games this season – having a hand in 15 goals.
The ex-Monaco and Anderlecht man has scored nine goals and laid on six assists, the last of those nine goals easily being the most important – when he struck a 30-yarder into the top corner at Wembley to win the FA Cup.
Transfer website CalcioMercato state that Leicester are keen to keep Tielemans – with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2023. It is believed the Foxes are at the negotiating table and want to offer the no.8 a new contract.
However, Liverpool and Barcelona are keeping tabs on the situation ahead of a potential summer move for the Belgian midfielder – prompting plenty of reaction from Liverpool fans on Twitter, following the reports.
I have been saying his name for months a perfect replacement for gini
