Liverpool have made their first signing of the summer, bringing young defender Sepp van den Berg in from Dutch club PEC Zwolle.
They confirmed the news on the club’s official website, continuing the theme of the summer that there will be quiet evolution rather than expensive revolution at Anfield.
Van den berg said: “It is, for me, the biggest club in the world and it’s a dream come true. I am really excited. I’ve seen what kind of players from the Academy grew into the first team here. It is unbelievable, especially when this kind of big club does that.
“Of course, the trainer [Jürgen Klopp] is a great guy and one of the reasons they are successful – and also one of the reasons I came here. I think this is the best place for me to grow and hopefully play a lot of games here.”

Loads of supporters took to Twitter when the Reds announced the news on their official account – some of them are hopeful that van den Berg can develop into a crucial first teamer and others just want to see his arrival followed up by more senior faces.
The Reds are excited either way and it will be interesting to see how the young Dutchman develops in the coming years, especially given Liverpool’s recent strong history with buying central defenders from the Netherlands…
