Liverpool fans react as club are linked with Premier League defender
Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Southampton defender Matt Targett (90min).
The Reds are losing Alberto Moreno on a free transfer and need backup for left-back Andy Robertson.

Targett made 21 appearances for the Saints last term having spent the previous season on loan at Fulham.
The 23-year-old has been with Southampton since the age of eight, but could well move on this summer having struggled to dislodge Ryan Bertrand from the starting XI.
Fellow Premier League clubs Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Leicester City have all been credited with an interest in the star (TEAMtalk).
With Liverpool tipped to have a fairly quiet summer, links to Targett do not seem all that outlandish.

He would be inexpensive and the transfer dealings the two clubs have had with each other over the past few years is well documented.
Liverpool fans react
Although Targett would hypothetically come in as Robertson’s understudy, a number of Liverpool fans still weren’t too keen on the idea:
What is this continued fascination with Southampton players? Enough already; if Targett isn’t good enough 2 play ahead of Bertrand y wud he b good enough as our 2nd choice LB? We’re European Champs & we need to be getting players worthy of being in our squad, Robbo was exception

He has the raw materials to be a good LB but has always looked average at Premier league level.

Dreadful player

He played really well when at Fulham during that promotion year. However, whenever he has appeared for Southampton in the premier league he has looked decidedly average. Better defensively than Sessegnon though.
