Liverpool fans have been giving their view on Jamie Carragher’s suggestion that the Reds should move for Dayot Upamecano.
The ex-defender believes it would be in Liverpool’s best interests to pursue the highly rated Frenchman in January, following the bombshell news about Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutchman is facing a lengthy lay-off with ACL damage after being challenged strongly by Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday.

Liverpool fans have been trying to get their heads around the idea that they potentially won’t have their superstar defender for the rest of the season.
van Dijk has been ever present since his £75 million move (BBC Sport) from Southampton in January 2018, and Jurgen Klopp’s other options, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Fabinho must all now step up.
Naturally talk has turned to getting cover in, with Carragher of the opinion that Upamecano should be the first port of call.
He said on Monday Night Football (Sky Sports): “There is a young man everyone was talking about at Leipzig, Dayot Upamecano, there is talk of him. Whether he has the profile of Van Dijk, I think he is only 6’1″ or 6’2”, so he is maybe not that aerial, but if he is the one they wanted, then bring it forward.

“Pay extra money and do it on January 1st.”
Upamecano is widely regarded as one of the top young defenders in world football, and wowed English audiences in the Champions League last term with his strength, poise and technical quality for Leipzig.
On social media, Liverpool fans backed Carragher’s suggestion:
