Liverpool boast two of the best full-backs in the world in Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold but Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell has claimed he could have joined Liverpool in 2014 – Reds fans have responded on Twitter.

Chilwell, 22, has become one of the best left-backs in the Premier League after shining under Brendan Rodgers at Leicester. He has clocked up 95 league and cup appearances for Leicester, and The Telegraph claim he is worth a huge £75million.

Back in 2014, Chilwell was still breaking into Leicester’s second string as a 17-year-old when Liverpool came calling. The left-back’s agent was in talks over a move to Anfield, but Chilwell opted to remain at Leicester.

The player believes he made the right decision after breaking into the England squad and clocking up eight senior caps, speaking to Sky Sports: “Definitely no regrets. When I look at how the last four or five years have gone, starting eight games now for the England team is something I’m very happy with.”

It would have been interesting to have seen if Liverpool signed Chilwell, whether they would have completed a move to land Robertson from Hull City – a move which came about three years later.

Robertson is now Scotland’s captain and has become one of the first names on the Liverpool team sheet. He and Alexander-Arnold are two of the most dangerous players in European football – despite playing in defence.

Liverpool fans love Robertson and reacted to Chilwell’s comments ahead of this weekend’s clash between the Reds and the Foxes, by claiming they got lucky in being rejected by Chilwell and instead signing Robertson.
