Liverpool coach Pep Lijnders has revealed that Adrian will not be playing against Arsenal tonight.
In his pre-match press conference, Lijnders said that Caoimhin Kelleher will start in goal, liverpoolfc.com reports. Kelleher keeps his place in the EFL Cup after making his first-team debut against MK Dons in the last round.
Kelleher kept a clean sheet and made one particularly notable save in the game at Stadium:MK. But the 20-year-old only got his chance because Alisson was injured, forcing Adrian to become the number one goalkeeper in the league.
Now that Alisson is back, Adrian has dropped to the bench. But the Spaniard – who is already a fan favourite at Anfield – will not be playing tonight. Liverpool host Arsenal in the EFL Cup fourth round and Kelleher will make his home debut.
Lijnders explained (via liverpoolfc.com): “We have Adrian, who did an unbelievable job and if something happens with Ali, Adrian is our No.2 and then has to do the job. But in this League Cup, it is Caoimhin’s competition.”
Liverpool fans took to Twitter to discuss this with a number feeling like this was harsh on Adrian. Here are some tweets.

If it was me in Adrian shoes I’d be very disappointed , he should get the cup games now I think his displays deserve that and keeps him sharp.
