Liverpool fans react as Adrian becomes the unlikely hero in Super Cup win

It has been a whirlwind fortnight for Adrian. In the space of 10 days, he has gone from being a free agent to a UEFA Super Cup winner. And it was his decisive save which won the trophy for Liverpool.

Adrian was a free agent after being released by West Ham at the end of last season. When Simon Mignolet returned to Club Brugge, Jurgen Klopp acted quickly to sign Adrian on a free transfer.

Like Mignolet, Adrian expected a quiet season of sitting on the bench and possibly getting some cup games. But Alisson suffered an injury during the first game of the season and Adrian came off the bench against Norwich City.

With Alisson out for a few weeks, Adrian is now Liverpool’s temporary number one. The Spaniard was called upon for Wednesday night’s UEFA Super Cup and he became an unlikely hero at the end.

Despite conceding a (debatable) penalty, Adrian redeemed himself during the shoot-out. The game finished 2-2 and all of the first nine spot-kicks were scored. Up stepped youngster Tammy Abraham but Adrian denied the English striker with his legs.
