Liverpool’s under-23 outfit secured a superb 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town in the Premier League Cup to go top of Group F.
Neil Critchley’s men have one group game left to play but are currently sitting pretty at the summit after their latest emphatic victory.
Liverpool secured the victory thanks to goals from Liam Millar, Sepp van den Berg and Joe Hardy.
The Reds are currently fifth in the league this season, although Critchley has had his played pinched by Jurgen Klopp for the first-team on many occasions.
Of course, that’s no bad thing as it means the pathway is clear but it hasn’t helped Critchley to compete for the league title.
The performance on Friday was good though and should give Liverpool’s young guns confidence moving forwards.
Scorer of the second goal Van Den Berg was particularly impressive and at 18 there really is no ceiling on the teenager’s potential.
The 18-year-old has played four times for the Reds this season with each of his appearances coming in the domestic cup competitions.
Following his goal on Friday, supporters were quick to take to Twitter and rave about the potential of the youngster.
Here is a selection of tweets after Van Den Berg netted his first goal for Liverpool’s under-23s against Huddersfield.
