As Liverpool sought to maintain the momentum generated by the victory over Napoli, Jurgen Klopp shuffled his midweek pack for the visit of Manchester United.
Jordan Henderson and James Milner were both impressive in midweek, but made way for Naby Keita and Fabinho; keeping the energy up while suffering no drop off in quality.
That was presumably the theory behind Klopp’s summer of midfield investment and both men performed well in yesterday’s comfortable 3-1 win over Jose Mourinho’s faltering side.
Fabinho grabbed the attention and the man of the match award from the base of midfield for his impressive display; the highlight of which was the deft assist for Sadio Mane to open the scoring.

Fabinho took the place of captain Henderson, who has been criticised at times in the past for being too conservative in his passing, but the Brazilian was always on the front foot yesterday.
He sent a few speculative shots whistling over the bar but ultimately was a key part of a commanding Reds display in which they underlined the scale of the gulf between themselves and United.
Naturally, the club’s supporters loved it and we’ve taken a closer look at some of the best reaction…
