Liverpool fans on Twitter react as Ibrahimovic ruled out of clash
Liverpool fans have been reacting to the news that Zlatan Ibrahimovic won’t face them on Wednesday night.
The Swedish striker has an achilles issue (Sky Sports).
At 39-years-old, the Milan man is certainly not in his prime.
However, he’s been a fantastic player for Milan since he re-signed for them.
Last season in Serie A he managed to bad 15 goals in 19 games (Transfermarkt).
In games against Liverpool, though, he’s winless and has just one goal in six appearances (Transfermarkt).
Given that stat, Liverpool fans were never worried about facing the Swede.
Many of them have even joked that he’s scared of facing Virgil van Dijk.
It would have been one hell of a battle between the Dutchman and the Swede.
Fortunately, we may still be able to see it later in the season.
Liverpool will travel to the San Siro in the final group stage game.
The fans will also hope that they’ve secured qualification by that point too.
In between the games against Milan, Liverpool face home and away trips to both Porto and Atletico Madrid.
It certainly isn’t an easy group for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Kicking it off against an Ibrahimovic-less Milan is a boost, even if the fans are nonplussed about facing him.
If Liverpool can get off to a strong start in the Champions League they could well target a 7th European crown.
It certainly isn’t worth writing the Reds off.
They’ve reached two of the past four finals, and could make it three in five years this season.
First, though, they have to get past Milan and this group.
