Liverpool have announced their starting XI ahead of today’s Premier League match against Newcastle Untied – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have been left extremely frustrated by the fact Fabinho is starting in defence again.
The Reds are hosting Newcastle at Anfield on Saturday lunchtime in an important league match, as they know a victory would temporally lift them to fourth in the table.
Jurgen Klopp’s side need a top-four finish to qualify for next year’s Champions League, and they are trying to salvage an underwhelming campaign.
Despite the fact they currently sit seventh, the Merseyside giants go into the weekend with a record of 10 points from their previous four league matches.
A selection of Liverpool supporters though on social media are angered by a decision manager Klopp has made against Newcastle.
Fabinho, who is one of the most influential figures in the Reds squad, is starting in the heart of defence.
The 27-year-old Brazilian has shown great versatility to drop in as a centre-back fairly effortlessly when needed this campaign. However, he’s a defensive midfielder by trade that is surely one of the best in the number six role across the whole of Europe.
With Nat Phillips sidelined by a hamstring problem, Klopp has continued to stick with Fabinho alongside Ozan Kabak rather than bring Rhys Williams into the XI.
Fabinho was missed in the recent 1-1 draw against Leeds when he started in defence rather than midfield, and supporters are fearful of a repeat.
Here are some Liverpool fans that are not happy with Klopp’s decision:
