Jeremie Frimpong has been impressing during pre-season, and that continued in Liverpool’s win over Yokohama F. Marinos.

Arne Slot’s team were 3-1 winners at the Nissan Stadium in Japan, with Florian Wirtz, Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha getting on the scoresheet.

The Reds’ new right back was subbed on just after the hour mark and was quick to make an impression with an impressive assist.

After the win, Liverpool supporters had plenty to say about the Dutch defender, with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s name being brought up.

Jeremie Frimpong registers first Liverpool assist vs Yokohama

Jeremie Frimpong registered his first assist in a Liverpool shirt as he set up Nyoni with a superb cross just four minutes after coming on.

The 24-year-old picked up the ball just on the edge of the Yokohama penalty area and sent a wicked delivery to the back post.

Liverpool’s 18-year-old attacker was the first to react to the cross and turned the ball in to turn the game on its head against the Japanese side.

Sami Hyypia criticised Frimpong’s crossing ability compared to Alexander-Arnold’s; however, Liverpool’s new signing could prove that to be a ridiculous statement.

Liverpool paid £35m for Frimpong, and the Reds supporters are backing him to make that fee look a bargain following his first assist for the club.

Jeremie Frimpong could be an upgrade on Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool fans are already claiming that Frimpong is showing that he could actually be an upgrade on Alexander-Arnold following his start to pre-season.

The defender’s impressive work rate to get back and defend is what has stood out the most so far in his first three matches.

Frimpong proved to be a real threat down the right side for the Reds and was rewarded with his assist for Liverpool’s second goal.

The ex-Bayer Leverkusen wing-back helped transform the game for Slot’s team with his excellent technical ability, despite the poor quality playing surface.

After the game, Liverpool fans took to X to share their thoughts on Frimpong and compare him to their former right-back.

One fan said: “Jeremy Frimpong is an upgrade on Trent Alexander-Arnold. I don’t care what anyone thinks.”

“Frimpong is the real deal for me! Forget Trent… His speed, power and energy are just a different level,” claimed another.

There was yet more praise for Frimpong: “Jeremy Frimpong, what an absolute world-class player, a perfect replacement for Trent. He’s untouchable at the right flank.”

Finally, another supporter stated: “Frimpong might be a bargain, the guy is rapid, has good crossing ability, and he is relentless; he might be better than Trent.”

Slot will be delighted with what he has seen so far from his new right-back, and he will be hoping that he truly can help him move on from Trent.

Conor Bradley and Frimpong are set to fight it out for the full-back position, but the latter very much seems to be the first-choice option.

Rio Ngumoha could save Arne Slot and Liverpool a lot of money

Following the £65m sale of Luis Diaz, Liverpool remain on the hunt for another winger, although Slot’s stance could quickly change.

Rio Ngumoha was again impressed during pre-season for Liverpool as he netted his first goal for the club with a very good strike.

The winger showed impressive feet to beat two Yokohama defenders and pick out the bottom right-hand side of the goal.

The 16-year-old could quite easily act as a backup option to either Cody Gakpo or Hugo Ekitike on the left side of Liverpool’s attack.
