Liverpool fans love what Jordan Henderson did after England defeat
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson played a peripheral part in England’s run to the Euro 2020 Final. Despite losing on penalties to Italy last night, Reds supporters took to Twitter to rave about their skipper.
Luke Shaw gave England a dream start to their first major final in 55 years. He fired home after two minutes and it stayed that way until the 67th minute. Leonardo Bonucci’s equaliser restored parity and penalties awaited.
The Three Lions missed three penalties to Italy’s two and it was the 2006 World Cup winners who were crowned as the new European Champions.
Henderson did score his first England goal during Euro 2020. He scored the fourth during a 4-0 win over Ukraine in the quarter-final of the competition.
Despite not starting a game at the tournament, he was introduced from the bench frequently. Last night he was actually introduced and then taken off just prior to the penalty shootout.
Liverpool fans loved that Henderson was one of few England players to keep their runners-up medals around their neck. He also stayed to applaud the Italian team as they lifted the trophy on the pitch.
At 31 Henderson is one of the more experienced members of the England squad. He has clearly been a stunning influence on a young group and simply oozes class in his influential leadership role.
Liverpool fans ecstatic with Henderson
Last night was tough to take for England. Losing a major final will sting for a while but there is real hope over this group of young players.
For Henderson, he will return to Liverpool and will undoubtedly hope to stay injury-free during 2021/22.
The Reds star is a model of consistency and he’ll hope to shake off the disappointment of Euro 2020 before tackling next season head-on with Liverpool.
