Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-1 at Anfield last night as the Reds kept up their perfect start to their Premier League title defence.
Jurgen Klopp’s team fell behind thanks to an Alexandre Lacazette goal, but Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson ensured they went in at half-time in the lead.
Liverpool had to wait until right at the death to seal their victory, with new signing Diogo Jota wrapping up the win with his first Reds goal.
Despite a solid performance going forward, it was one of the defenders who really caught the eye during last night’s game.
Joe Gomez returned to the team after missing the win over Chelsea with a minor muscle injury.
The 23-year-old struck up a solid partnership with Virgil van Dijk last season and once again last night he was brilliant in defence.
Gomez signed a bumper £75,000-a-week contract back in 2018 and looks set for a bright future in the red of Liverpool.
Last night he caught the eye of supporters on Twitter and after replacing Fabinho in the back four, they took to social media to rave about his performance.
Having the Brazilian back in midfield was big in stifling Arsenal’s creative sparks and Gomez proved a standout performer at the back.
Here is a selection of Tweets from Liverpool supporters regarding Joe Gomez.
Liverpool looked really good for the most part. Gomez had a great game. Nice to see Jota contribute immediately. Most importantly, another 3 pts. #YNWA

Firmino amazing tonight. Salah amazing barring that one selfish moment. Mane is just so so good. Gomez amazing. Allison amazing. Jota scored on his debut. Again Liverpool were professional and composed. Very complete performance. Up the Reds #LIVARS #YNWA

Liverpool were simply outstanding. From VVD & gomez at the back fabhino mopping everything up in the middle. Mane up top probably the best winger in the world atm. They look unstoppable. 100 points this season incoming

Joe Gomez and Fabinho with a clinical performance. Fabinho is slowly becoming one of my favourite players at Liverpool.

For me, Joe Gomez is man of the match. Has been sensational, performances like these go unnoticed but he’s held it together for Liverpool at the back.
